EVE Co-organizes the 2020 International Forum on Power Battery Technology and Industry Development

Oct 13,2020

On October 12th, the 15th International Forum on Power Battery Technology and Industrial Development, sponsored by Tsinghua University, the Institute of Physics CAS and People’s Government of Shunyi District, was held in Shunyi. 36 keynote speeches focusing on power battery materials, development and application of power battery, ideas of power battery development, power battery evaluation standards, future digital energy storage technology and other topics were delivered, comprehensively analyzing and exploring the development of lithium battery industry technology. Many industry experts and scholars participated in the forum.

With the rapid development of the new energy automobile industry, battery safety, cost, high and low temperature performance, charge and discharge rate and battery life have become industry concerns. Solving the contradiction between high energy density and safety of lithium batteries, reducing the cost of lithium batteries, breaking through the bottleneck of material technology, and improving the recycling and reuse management system have become important challenges for the development of the industry. Improving the safety, battery life, low temperature characteristics and cost reduction of automotive power batteries has become the direction of industrial technology development.

Professor Wu Feng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor at Beijing Institute of Technology, believes that current market for new energy vehicles is huge. As the heart of new energy vehicles, the development of power batteries is crucial. In the future, power batteries will achieve a comprehensive and balanced development in terms of energy density, safety, service life, cost, etc., and become the mainstream choice in the vehicle market.

The road ahead is long and hard. Persist, success is in the cards.

Dr. LIU Jincheng, chairman of EVE, was invited to attend the forum and shared EVE’s basic ideas on current development of power batteries.

The report points out 4 basic concepts: 1. Safety and reliability are the natural attributes of batteries and the bottom line that the industry needs to stick to; 2. Battery energy density is no longer the main contradiction. Current material system and chemical system can support the market development in following years. 3. Battery manufacturing technology and system integration capabilities have become bottlenecks. Experimental research cannot solve the production risks at the production site. The biggest risk is that the manufacturing technology is not mature. 4. Industry chain coordination is the key to the success of an enterprise. Improve the quality and stability of the industrial chain, and jointly manufacture high-reliability products that can meet the needs of automobiles have become the future development direction.

Regarding the application of high-nickel batteries, Dr. LIU Jincheng expressed his opinion: Car should be a convenient tool for people. Before truly confirming that the products meet the safety requirements, the market should lower the awareness of competition, be pragmatic, concentrate on research and development, and win the future with reliable products. The road of the new energy vehicle power battery market ahead is long and hard. Persist, success is in the cards!"
